Thugs burnt PDP members houses, cars in Odupkani

Thugs suspected to be loyalists of the All Progressives Congress, APC have allegedly burnt done houses and cars belonging to members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Okoyong community of Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

An eye witness, Okon Asuquo said that  the home of a PDP leader in the area, Eka Etim Ekpa was set ablaze on Monday 21st January 2019, while a vehicle and other properties belonging to another PDP member, Mr Bassey Asuquo was equally vandalized on the same day at about 2pm by alleged APC thugs.

Images sent to Fearless Reports shows a house recently burnt down completely and an automobile badly vandalized with the windscreen destroyed, side windows equally broken and punctured tires.

Asuquo told journalists that Odukpani has always been a peaceful and strong hold of the Peoples Democratic party until recently when Elder Ekpo Okon a former state chairman of the PDP, who also hails from Okoyong community defected to the  APC.

He alleged that since Ekpo Okon defected to the APC and emerged as the party's deputy governorship candidate in the state, they have been intimidation and violence from the APC in Odukpani local government area.

According to him, "Our supporters are law abiding, and had always adhere to the principles of the founding fathers which is against electoral violence and other undemocratic acts.

However, since Elder Ekpo Okon defected to APC and the refusal of major PDP stalwarts in Odukpani to defect with him, he has resulted in violence and intimidation of party members".

Reacting, a member of APC in Odukpani who introduced himself as Ekpenyong denied the allegation adding that " If anything happened then the APC members were just defending themselves against PDP thugs".

Ekpenyong said "since the defection of Ekpo Okon, the political leader of Odukpani to the APC, PDP who we suspect have the backing of the state government have been trying to cause trouble. I'm not aware of what you're saying but if any such thing happened then the APC members would have defended themselves which is allowed by law".
