BREAKING : Unical tops in admission of foreign students in S/South, third in Nigeria

The University of Calabar, Unical has been rated the best University with the highest number of foreign students currently undertaking different degree programmes in the entire South South geopolitical zone of the country.

In the entire country, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State came first with 37 foreign students while the University of Maiduguri, Bornor State came second with 8 students leaving Unical with seven students with non-Nigerian passport in third position.

The rating was announced at the National Tertiary Admission Performance-Merit Award organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

The award ceremony held today, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Andrew Otutu Obseki Auditorium, National Judicial Institute, Abuja.

This is the first time JAMB would be organising such event to honour some Nigerian Universities that have performed credibly especially in the area of admission and other things.

The University of Uyo which came just behind Unical in the National rating came second in the South South zone with three foreign students.

Reacting to the development, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Zana Akpagu who was at the event told Journalists that the University was sure of coming first in the next rating in the country because of the quality of programmes established in the last three years.

He said his administration's curricular expansion policy has made Unical offerings more enticing and relevant to Nigeria and the world at large.

It will be recalled that since Prof. Akpagu assumed office three years ago, he has introduced many programmes and faculties including Criminology, Engineering, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dentistry which has been rated as the best in the country, Mass Communication and Digital Media amongst others.
