Akpagu Wonder : From dilapidated lecture halls to state-of- the-art learning environment

Succour has come to students of the University of Calabar, UNICAL as Vice Chancellor, Prof Zana Akpagu refurbishes lecture halls and other learning  facilities across the campus.

Comrade Enyam Kelvin,  immediate past President of the Students Union Government and student in the Department of Marketing, UNICAL,  who took journalists on a project tour on Tuesday, said the rehabilitation of lecture halls is coming after a recent complain by students over dilapidated desk and lecture halls, which prompted the VC to swing into action.

While reacting to questions from newsmen, the students leader said his administration as President had synergised with  Prof. Akpagu to attend to the welfare of the students and to bring a facelift to the institution.

"A large number of desks and halls  were dilapidated, leaving students to stand during lectures, but as you can see, we have renovated them.

"I am happy that the projects have been completed. The projects include renovations of desk and lecture halls," he said.

Speaking, Chukwuma Patience, a 100 level student in the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, praised the VC for having the welfare of students at heart.

"when these desks got bad,  we sent a message to the VC, and immediately, he came to our rescue. This shows real leadership. we can now have our lectures in a conducive environment," he said.

Also speaking, Ngbang Patrick, a student of UNICAL, maintained that with the current learning environment, students academic performance will  improve

A lecturer, Dr. Michael Duke, in his remark, commended the VC for being kind to the plight of the students.
