JUST IN : NAL annual lecture postponed due to bad weather

The Nigerian Academic of Letters (NAL) annual Lecture which was to hold in the University of Calabar today, Thursday 13 February, 2020 has been postponed due to bad weather, Fearless Reports can confirm.

Recall that this medium had earlier published that the Unical Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu was to play host to Prof. Ishaq Oloyode, Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary, Nigeria University Commission (NUC), amongst others who were billed to grace the NAL 2020 annual Lecture.

However, in a sharp contrast, a member of the organisation in Unical, Prof. Bassey Okon has confirmed to our reporter that guests who were expected from Lagos, Abuja and other parts of the country could not fly to Calabar due to bad weather.

According to her "Yes, I can confirm that the NAL Annual Lecture has been postponed. People coming from Lagos could not come in; we were told that it's heavy weather and that's why it has been postponed".

She however added that "For now, a new date has not been fixed but we'll get back to you".

Other dignitaries that were expected in the postponed annual Lecture include Emeritus Prof. and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Ayo Banjo, Prof. Emeritus, Femi Osofisan.

The Lecture themed: "History and the Mythopoeic Vocation: The Nation as Capricious Grand Guignol?” was to be presented by Prof. Femi Osofisan.

The NAL was inaugurated at a meeting held at the University of Ibadan on November 14, 1991.

It is the apex organisation of the Nigerian academics and scholars in humanities and aimed at promoting academic excellence in all branches of humanities.
