Obudu State Constituency bye-election: I'll focus on bills to strengthen food security, Agric dev - APC Candidate

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the October 31st Obudu State Constituency bye-election, Dr. Godwin Agbor has pledged that his focus in the house if elected would be to sponsor bills to strengthen food security and agricultural development in rural communities.

Agbor who stated this in his manifestos said that his interest to run for the vacant seat is borne out of his desire to serve the people of Obudu and nothing more.

It will be recalled that the House assembly seat became vacant after the passing away of the former occupant, Late Hon. Godwin Akwaji who died after a brief illness in June. The Independent National Electoral Commission, two months ago fixed October 31st for all the bye-elections in the country.

Agbor, a medical Doctor with private hospitals in Boki emerged candidate of the APC after convincing other aspirants to step down for him before the party primaries which held on the 3rd of September.

Pledging to work on bills that will address the core values of his party, Agbor said he would work with other house members to formulate a robust industrialization policy drive that would in turn create jobs for members of his constituency and the stage at large.

"My interest in running for the position of State House of Assembly is borne out of my passion to serve the good people of Obudu.  Obudu needs a robust, result-oriented, effective representation and purposeful governance. We need someone who is humble, accessible, who listen, who has the capacity, who can be trusted and who is loved by his people irrespective of any divide.

"I will when voted into the house, introduce and work for bills that will address the core values of our party manifesto. Such bills that addresses job creation and boost the wellbeing of our people, strengthen food security and agricultural development of our rural dwellers, formulate a robust industrialization policy drive especially the cocoa and agricultural products to go through value addition, addresses educational needs of our children, empowers our women, protects the right of the girl child and most importantly, addresses the health needs of our people", he said.

He added that "the youths shall be given opportunity to harness their full potentials. There is also the need for the state to have a commission that will help resolve, mitigate and prevent conflicts within and outside her shores that tend to affect tourism  which is now the mainstay of our economy.

The state has lost her oil well and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has dwindled tremendously and we are now at the mercy of the government at the centre (APC led Federal Government). So it is wise we align with the APC government to get more succour for the development of the state.

It is therefore pertinent that the people of Obudu show leadership and the right direction going into this By-Election to make a change that gives signal towards taking over governance in the state in future elections beginning from 2023. We believe that together we can do it for Obudu. Yes we can".
