HYPADEC : Utum Eteng, Others Meet SGF After Senate Confirmation


The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, (HYPADEC) formally kicked-off yesterday with a maiden meeting of members of the governing board with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustafa, one month after their confirmation by Senate.

The Commissioner representing the Non-Hydroelectric Producing Areas in HYPADEC, Chief Utum Eteng, disclosed this in a chat with our reporter yesterday.

Eteng, a legal practitioner and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State said that the meeting was to avail members the opportunity to interact as well as familiarize with the SGF.

He said that "The HYPADEC board took off in style yesterday in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa.


"The federal government through the SGF formally approved the takeoff of meeting of all the members of the Commission".
HYPADEC is a new Commission established by an Act of the National Assembly.

Although the Act establishing the Commission was enacted in 2010, the board was not set up until November last year when President Muhammadu Buhari sent names of nominees to the Senate for confirmation as Chairman, Managing Director and members.

After a closed door screening exercise conducted by the Senate committee on Power led by former Benue Governor, Sen. Gabriel Suswan, all the nominees were confirmed by the Senate on the 17th of December, 2020.


Members of the governing board include; Ityav Joseph Terfa as Chairman, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa (Kebbi) as Managing Director; Alh. Isa Ozi Salami (Kogi) as a member; Taoheed Toyin (Kwara – member); Mikail Bmitosahi (Niger – member); Saleh Kanam (Plateau – member); Aminu Ganda (Sokoto – member); and Utum Eteng (Cross River – member).
