In Egbona's World, Health Is Truly Wealth
Since his historic win as the first All Progressive Congress (APC) member to secure an elective position in Cross River State in 2019, the member representing Abi/Yakurr federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Alex Egbona has left no stone unturned in ensuring that he lives up to the high expectations placed upon his shoulders by his constituents through severla initiatives.
Egbona took office with a strong reputation as a grassroots leader and the People's man, built during his tenure as Chief of Staff to former Governor Liyel Imoke. Despite his constituents overwhelmingly reelecting him in 2023, demonstrating their satisfaction with his representation, Egbona's numerous people-centric initiatives have gone largely unrecognized outside his constituency.
Maybe unintentionally, Egbona has always gone under the radar in discussions about top-performing National Assembly members. Interestingly, he's rarely criticized too. However, as others are highlighted for commendation or criticism, it is necessary to also shine a light on what he's doing. Howbeit, he has carried on well, demonstrating that his people didn't make any mistake in their judgments by electing him.
For instance, few days, Egbona demonstrated his commitment to the wellbeing of his people by organizing a comprehensive free medical outreach program. This initiative included training health workers, providing free medical services, and distributing essential equipment to health centers within his constituency. Notably, the programme also offered free surgical operations and medical consultations, bringing significant relief to his constituents.
The medical outreach far surpassed expectations, drawing people from every corner of the constituency to the designated centers for critical surgeries. As the demand overwhelmed the programme's capacity, Egbona generously stepped in, covering the costs for those unable to receive care to instead undergo surgery at the teaching hospital. For him, anything that would make his constituents receive the medical attention they desperately need is game.
The lawmaker who is the chairman of the House committee on Special Healthcare had promised his constituents during his campaigns that if reelected, he will facilitate the supply of medical facilities to enhance medicare for the people. And true to his words, he has distributed equipment which include beds, mattresses, pillows, treated mosquitoe nets, autoclave machine, bed side locker and bed sheets.
Others are wheel chairs, straight artery forcepts, jake dissecting forcepts toothed, straight mayo scissors, curve mayo scissors, scarpel, stiches scissors, rubber clutches and multi-functional bandage, automatic digital BP monitor, B side H3 infrared thermo gun, stainless trolley, hand gloves, hospital tables and chairs.
He also donated hospital drip stand, T-C cotton absorbent guaze, PBT elastic bandage, litman cardiology stethoscope, arm sling support, fingertip oxygen monitor, ventolin inhaler, seretide stabilizer, refrigerator, stretcher bed, anti bacterial wipes, among others.
Today, all Primary Healthcare centres in Abi and Yakurr have benefited from his medical equipment supply initiative. His thoughtful decision to upgrade medical facilities closest to his people tells well about his concern to ensure every constituent have access to quality healthcare. He may not be highly visible on digital media like others, but he also deserves his flowers.
Indeed, to him, "health is wealth." His efforts will undoubtedly contribute to the health and wealth of his constituents. Bravo Honourable!
