Akpanke Fulfills Promise, Pays JAMB Highest Scorer School Fees
Member representing Obudu/Bekwerra/Obanliku federal constituency, Rep Peter Akpanke has paid the two years school fee of Stephen Apebende, the candidate who had the highest scores in Cross River State in the last Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) examination.
Young Apebende, who hails from Obudu local government area of the state scored 356 out of the available 400 to emerge the best candidate from the state. Upon hearing his exploit, Akpanke announced a scholarship award for the scholar who recently got admitted to study Computer Engineering in the University of Lagos, UniLag.
The lawmaker who said the scholarship is for the five duration of his programme said that initially he had planned to pay all the boy’s school fees at once but changed his mind owing the discrepancies in the fee schedule from what the university published on its notice board and the letter he got from the Students’ Affairs Division institution.
He noted that while he cleared the two years school fee of the teenager in line with the public notice on the institution’s notice board, he’ll follow up to address the discrepancies to pay the remaining balance as he wants to avoid any complication in his fee payment.
“Stephen is not just a constituent but he’s a son, and I think I owe him a duty to celebrate and encourage him. We’ve been giving people scholarships but this one is dear to me because he has made my constituency proud.
Our initial plan was to pay all at once so he can focus only in his studies but I noticed some issues with the letter I got from the university and decided to pay the first two years in line with the public notice on the university’s notice board while I work to clear the issues before proceeding to clear the fee for the remaining three years.
I want to congratulate Stephen on his admission and encourage him to ensure he also makes the OBO constituency and the entire state proud by coming out in flying colours”, he said.
Reacting, the beneficiary’s father, Mr. Sylvester Apebende commended the lawmaker for his benevolence, saying it’ll go a long way to encourage the young people that hard work pays.
According to him, “on behalf of my Son, Unimawho Stephen Apebende the beneficiary of the scholarship award from Hon. Peter Akpanke’s kind benevolence , the entire Apebende Dynasty are most grateful as we have received with gratitude, the first installment of two years school fee from the five years scholarship awarded to our son.
We pray that he has taken from, may God continue to replenish his pockets and enrich his philanthropic gestures. This will continue to encourage our youths to be more dedicated to hardwork and their education”.
It will be recalled that young Apebende was also hosted by the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey who also promised to support him in any way possible to ensure a seamless pursuit of his studies.
