Group Donates N20m For Sen. Ekpenyong’s Senatorial Nomination Form

The Scholars in Diaspora (SiD) has announced that it raised N22.1 million to purchase the All Progressives Congress, APC senatorial nomination form for Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

Members of the group, drawn from across the United Kingdom and beyond are beneficiaries of the scholarship initiatives of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District.

SiD, which made the announcement during its meeting yesterday in Coventry, West Midlands, United Kingdom, explained that out of the amount donated so far, N20million has been earmarked for the purchase of the Senator’s nomination form, while the remaining funds including additional contributions still being received will be invested in educational support for vulnerable children.

The initiative, the group explained, is a continuation of the its longstanding commitment to education, noting that prior to the event, it had consistently supported educational causes, including the distribution of learning materials and assistance with school fees for underprivileged students.

A defining highlight of the gathering was a live video call with Senator Ekpenyong, during which the scholars formally presented a symbolic cheque.

Overwhelmed with emotion, the Senator noted that while he has always been committed to giving, he never imagined receiving such a gesture in return especially from students. He initially hesitated to accept the contribution but was persuaded by the genuine appreciation and goodwill demonstrated by the scholars.

The Senator expressed deep gratitude and reaffirmed his unflinching commitment to education, youth development, and service to the people of Cross River South.
