GEJ In-law Slams Buhari, Demands Apology For Calling Youths Lazy

Prince Godswill  Edward
Former President Goodluck Jonathan's in-law, Prince Godswill Edward has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari over a comment he allegedly made in Commonwealth Business Forum that Nigerian Youths are lazy and want everything free.

Edward who said the President owe the youths and the entire country unreserved apology for the comment stated this yesterday in Calabar during his visit to the State Secretariat of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ).

Edward who is the Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Youths Affairs maintained that contrary to Buhari's comments, Nigerian youths are the most enterprising youths in the whole world.

He argued that his office has exposed him to daily interaction with youths with great potentials but lack the enabling environment to thrive.

According to him, "Nigerian youths are hardworking but only need opportunity and the enabling environment to thrive. We're struggling to build global outreach with our contemporaries in the world but with this comment by the President who should act like a father of all, how would they look at us?

Yes, some youths are lazy but we need encouragement. My office has exposed me to so many youths and I can tell you that our youths are good. You see young people who are dedicated to work but where are the jobs?

Cross River, Nigeria and in fact black youths all over the world are not lazy, we're not lazy. The youths of Nigeria deserve apology from the President. The President is an elder statesman that should at every occasion project the image of his country positively but it's unfortunate that he could deride Nigerian youths in the manner he did in world stage".

Speaking about his future political ambition, he said that he was consulting to contest the Abi/Yakur federal constituency elections next year and want all the youths to support him as he will be going as a youth ambassador to change the narrative.

"I'm still consulting to contest the Abi/Yakur federal constituency election next. I want all the youths to understand that I'm doing this for them. If I'm there, I'll understand their plights more because what affects them, affects me because we're contemporaries", he said.
