It is absolute rubbish to say Owan Enoh's ticket is Ejagam-Ejagam - Obono-Obla

Chief Okoi Obono-Obla

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla has described as "absolute rubbish" claims by some All Progressive Congress, APC leaders that the governorship candidate of the party and his running mate are from the same ethnic stock, Ejagam.

Obono-Obla in a reaction made available to Fearless Reports said that such insinuation was a deliberate distortion of the ethnological configuration of the state.

It will be recalled that the announcement of former PDP Cross River Southern Senatorial District aspirant, Ntufam Ekpo Okon as running mate to APC governorship candidate, Owan Enoh has unsettled the party as well as attracted wide criticism among party faithfuls especially from the South.

But Obono-Obla who is also the Chairman, Special Presidential Panel on Recovering of Public Assets said that the Okoyong people in Odupkani local government area where Ekpo Okon comes from are Efik and not Ejagam.

He said that "I am pleasantly surprised that some people are suggesting that Senator John Owan-Enoh’s ticket is “ Ejagham-Ejagham". That is absolute rubbish! It is a deliberate  distortion of History and indeed the  ethnological/anthropological configuration of Cross River State of Nigeria.

"The running mate of Senator John Owan Enoh is from Akpap Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State . Originally, the Okoyong people were not considered“ Efik “ people . They spoke a language known as Kiong which is presently almost extinct . Over time the Okoyong people have assimilated and become interwoven  and through the process of cultural and linguistic miscegenation have become Efik".

He maintained that "it is wrong for any body to now suggest that Okoyong people are not Efik today because of bad politics. We must avoid using bad politics to tear apart the fabric of Cross River State".

While maintaining that "all the groups you find today in Cross River State are historically , ethnologically and anthropologically intertwined and linked together one way or the other", he added that "We are one people and indeed inseparable".
