Mr. John Upan Odey Jr. |
Odey who have been silent since the National Working Committee of the APC recognized Sen. John Owan Enoh as governorship candidate of the party in the state despite protest by him and other aspirants said this in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen in Calabar.
He said that although he has been silent over the past fee weeks he has not been quite as he will continue to pursue his ambition to emancipate Cross River State.
While commending his supporters for remaining resolute, he urged them to remain calm and law abiding pending when he will communicate them on the next course of action.
The governorship aspirant who expressed optimism that he will end up in victory described the APC governorship primaries in the state as a shameful exercise characterized by high level impunity.
According to him "I want to specially thank all my supporters for remaining firm in the midst of the confusion that has been brewing in the ranks and files of the APC in Cross River State since the mirage that happened two months ago in the name of Governorship primaries.
"The support and love you all have shown has been unequivocal and highly appreciated. It has given me the assurances and confidence that our determination to rescue our dear state is real and still burning.
History has shown time and time again that the struggle for emancipation of a people has never been an easy task. It took Nelson Mandela over 20 years to conquer. Our dear President Muhammadu Buhari all his life has been fighting to emancipate the common man.
Before I joined the race, I knew it won't be easy to fight against the establishment but one good thing is that I've always believed that if Nelson Mandela could do it, we can do it. Collectively, we can take back our state from the desperate people whose only interest is to get into power and enmesh wealth for themselves and their cronies.
Since the shameful exercise and impunity that took place in the last two months in our great party the APC, I've been silent but not quite. I have felt disappointed and disenchanted over what happened but I've remained hopeful that it's a phase we must go through in our quest to rescue Cross River".
He added that "Today, I want to announce to all of you that there's a renewed hope and vigour to continue to pursue what we believe in. I want to tell you that I have not formally brought my governorship ambition to an end. I'm very hopeful and convinced that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
For now, I advice all my supporters and followers to remain calm and law abiding but firm and determined because the battle has just begun.
As we continue to pursue our convictions with the hope of recovering our stolen mandate, I will be advising you on our course of action as time goes on".
