In a warning note issued by the Deputy Registrar, Academic Division, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, the University said that some fraudsters who claim to be working with the admission officer are going about collecting money from people to secure admission for them.
He said that they are not agents of the University or the admission officer as admission into the University is based on merit and not bought.
According to him "My attention has been drawn severally to the activities of some fraudsters who are parading themselves as staff of Academic Division or Agents of Admissions officer and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned monies.
I have read on social media, several posts by some individuals who claimed to be working hand-in-hand with the Admissions Officer. One of these persons (Mr. Paul) who claimed to be the Secretary to the Admissions Officer, had requested Admission seekers to pay money into a Fidelity bank account number 6560174354
Just recently, two staff who were going about collecting money from people and also claiming to be working for the Admissions Officer were accosted and are currently being investigated. Their victims came to realize the truth just recently and are now pursuing them to make refunds".
Egbe added that "Let me state categorically clear here, that I have not, and can never ask anybody to pay a dine for the purpose of securing Admission. Those parading as Agents of the Admissions Officer or anyone else should be promptly reported to the Security.
Candidates should note that all those who have been offered Admissions into the University of Calabar so far, got it on their own merit without any extraneous influence from any of these racketeers. Therefore, Parents who have fallen victims to these fraudsters should not hesitate to call these numbers (08035400933, 08035512816) and report the people involved.
Thank you and be properly guided on this matter, please".
