JUST IN : Ndoma-Egba insist C'River central senatorial election is inclusive, rejects result

Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, APC candidate for Cross River Central Senatorial District

Former Senate Leader and the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC for the Cross River State Central senatorial district in the February 23rd election, Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba has rejected the results announced by INEC which declared Dr. Sandy Onor of PDP winner.

Ndoma-Egba in a statement by Sunny Udeh, Director of Media and  Communication of his campaign organization insists that elections in Etung local government area and some areas in Obubra didn't hold therefore the result can't stand.

He maintained that since the number of registered voters in the affected areas are far in excess of the margin between the two leading candidates, the election remain inclusive.

"The attention of the Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba Campaign Organization has been drawn to the purported announcement of results and declaration of Dr. Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner of the elections of Saturday February 23rd, 2019 in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State.

"To the best of our knowledge, elections in Etung LGA were cancelled by INEC while the results of three wards of Obubra LGA namely Ofodua, Osopong 2, Ofumbongha/Yala were also cancelled.

"The results of elections in Boki remain hotly contested as elections did not hold due to non-deployment of Card Readers for accreditation. It is significant to note that the total registered votes in the affected areas are far in excess of the margin between the two leading candidates. As a result of these and other reasons, the elections remain inconclusive.

"In view of the above issues, which affected the credibility of the elections, we outrightly reject the purported announcement of results and declaration of a winner at this stage of the process. We, therefore, demand that INEC relies on precedents and relevant provisions in the Electoral Act and its own Guidelines for the 2019 Elections to conduct rerun elections in the affected areas.

"We request INEC to do the right thing, let the discerning people of the Cross River Central Senatorial District decide their fate and give legitimacy to the electoral process.

In the meantime, we urge our teeming law abiding supporters to remain calm as justice will certainly be done", the statement reads.
