Cross Riverian Nominated NDP Candidate for Constituency Election in Canada

Dr. Obasesam Okoi

A Nigerian Scholar from Cross River State, Dr. Obasesam Okoi has won nomination as the New Democratic Party, NDP Candidate for Springfield-Richot constituency in the forthcoming provincial election in Manitoba, Canada.

Dr. Okoi who took to his personal Facebook account, @Obasesam Okoi to break the news said that he was joining the race to fight for public good.

He noted that the conservative reform by the Pallister government was undermining the healthcare and education sectors adding that he was getting involved to move his constituency politics in a new direction.

According to him "I am pleased to announce that I have been approved to seek the New Democratic Party nomination for the constituency of Springfield-Richot in the forthcoming provincial election in Manitoba. My nomination meeting  is schedule for the first week of June, 2019 (details to follow). 

I am joining this race to fight for the public good. The prevailing conservative reform by the Pallister government threatens to undermine healthcare and education - issues that are fundamental to our wellbeing and social progress. We need to move our politics in a new direction, where the pursuit of economic efficiency does not undermine the  wellbeing of both middle class and low-income families". 

Okoi added that "I am motivated to fight for healthcare reform, affordable childcare services, affordable education, job creation, and social protection for low income families. As a progressive scholar who understands the value of education to Manitoba's economy, I will fight for education reform". 

He also disclosed that "Following my official nomination, our campaign team will be knocking on doors to seek the support of our constituents.

Together, we will move our constituency in a new direction driven by the progressive philosophy of our party, and the bold vision of our young and dynamic leader, Honorable Wab Kinew".
