Ekeng Inducted into Etubom Traditional Council

Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng, was on the 20th September, 2019, inducted into Etubom Traditional Council as the Etubom of Ewa Ekeng Royal House by His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi V, Obong of Calabar, Treaty King and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom.

The induction/capping held in the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, Treaty King and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom in the company of the pantheons of the traditional stool, family members, friends and well wishers.

The Obong expressed his delight at carrying out the CAPPING event, acknowledging Ewa Ekeng Royal House as the leaders of the Henshaw Town community. He expressed confidence in the ability of Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng to pilot the affairs of family, stating that his selection was properly done.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Etuboms Traditional Council, Etubom Bassey O. E. Duke said that the Palace was excited to witness the event, after watching the vacant seat of Ewa Ekeng family for a while. He extolled the rich pedigree of the new Etubom and urged him to work assiduously with other stakeholders to reposition the Nsidung Community.

A congratulatory letter from the Ewa Ekeng Royal House, signed by its Acting Secretary, Etinyin Ewa Henshaw, read: “No better story could be told, than your your capping by the Obong of Calabar.”

The Ewa Ekeng Royal House described its new Etubom as “a man of peace and truth,” adding, “the mantle of leadership fits you and God has made His grace to shine sufficient unto you to see this day, as you climb the ladder of honour.”

The Ewa Ekeng Royal House prayed its Etubom “long life, good health and wisdom to tend the flock in the path of truth.”

In his remarks, a Royal Father, Etinyin Francis Henshaw, who expressed delight in the capping of the Etubom, also stated that the event is victory for the Ewa Ekeng Royal House, while pledging his support to Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng.

Another son of Ewa Ekeng family and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gas Resources, Dr. Chris Ekeng Ita, felicitated Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng on his ascension as the Etubom of Ewa Ekeng Royal and the his eventual capping by the Obong of Calabar.

Dr. Ita stated that the Etubom’s experience will contribute immensely to the ancestry as the custodian of their culture and heritage, whilst wishing him good health and successful time on the throne.

Speaking after his capping/induction ceremony, the elated Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng, promised to maintain family ties and uphold the unity of the Ewa Ekeng Royal House.

A brief citation of the Etubom averred that the octogenarian was born into the family of Great Prince Ansa Effiom Ekeng Ita (Prince Elijah Henshaw), the seventh son of Obong Ekeng Ita of Ewa Ekeng royal House, Henshaw Town.

Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng had his primary education at Sacred Heart Primary Shool, Egerton Street and his secondary education at West African People’s Institute (WAPI), all in Calabar.

On completion of his secondary school, Etubom Ekpo Nsa Ekeng took appointment with the Board of Internal Revenue in 1957, where he rose through the ranks and retired in 1992 as Principal Revenue Officer.

The event which was filled with pomp and pageantry, traditional and cultural displays had a large presence of family members and well wishers.
