JUST IN : Akpagu lifts Unical again as institution Bags ICAN Merit Award

Efforts of the multiple award winning Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu has yielded yet another positive result as the governing council of the institution has earned nomination for the highly coveted Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Merit Award.

News of the nomination was conveyed in a letter dated February 21, 2020 and addressed to the VC by the President of the body, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo.

According to the letter, Prof. Akpagu is to lead a delegation from the institution to receive the award on the 25th of April at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Explaining why the body was honouring Unical, the President in the letter said that it was for the institution's outstanding contributions to Professionalism, excellence, human capital development and nation building particularly the development of the Accounting profession in Nigeria.

Okwuadigbo added that "nominations were received by members of the institute and they were carefully received by a committee of council which came up with the final recommendation".

Recall that under Prof. Akpagu's administration, the University has won several awards including best University in the utilisation of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, funds, Best Use of Social Media and other international awards.
