In his avowed determination to provide a reliable and uninterrupted power supply to the institution, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu through the Energizing Education Programme has attracted a major electrification project to the institution.

Due to the relentless efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Unical was selected among 37 other Federal Universities and 7 affiliated University Teaching Hospitals to benefit from the project which is co-funded by the Federal Government and the World Bank.

The Energizing Education project is a key component of the Nigeria Electrification Project.

The Project is set to commence in Unical with installation of Solar-Hybrid Power Plant and street lights. It is aimed at providing a dedicated, clean and reliable power supply to Unical.

Since he came on board, Prof. Akpagu has not rested on his oars in his determination to provide constant power supply for the institution.

He had earlier partnered the German Government under the aegis of Nigerian German Energy Partnership (NGEP) to install a Solar plant in Unical to provide alternative power supply in the institution to boost teaching and research.
