UNICROSS: Gov. Otu Thanks Alumni For Support, Says Varsity Must Change For Better
Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu has commended the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) alumni association for warmly supporting and welcoming the decision to change leadership in the university.
In a message he personally sent to Dr. Inyali Peter, national President of the association, the Governor assured that with the alumni’s support, his administration is poised to changing the fortunes of the institution for better.
It will be recalled that on the 26th of January, 2025, the Governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gil dissolved the 5th governing council of the university and constituted the 6th council.
Prominent elder statesman and former Secretary to the State Government, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo was appointed as Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the 6th Council while Hon. Franco Eta and Prof. Susan Etim were also appointed as external members, representing the central and southern senatorial districts respectively in the 6th council.
The release also conveyed the Governor’s approval for the appointment of Prof. Francisca Bassey as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution. While Prof. Bassey assumed office yesterday, the new council is set to be inaugurated in the coming days.
Governor Otu who is also Visitor to the University, while responding to the goodwill message from the alumni welcoming the change in leadership said that “Many thanks my Presido, for the Alumni support, Unicross must change for the better.”
The alumni, over the past few months have championed the advocacy for a change in leadership in the institution through several including various interface with the Governor and other critical stakeholders in a bid to put the institution in a right trajectory for development.
