UNICAL Set Up Committee To Address Staff Pension Deduction

The University of Calabar, (Unical) has set up a five man Joint MANAGEMENT-Senior Staff Asociation of Nigerian Universitites (SSANU) Committee to look into all the issues surrounding pension deduction on staff salarie

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Zana Akpagu approved the formation of the committee during a meeting between the Management and the interim leadership of SSANU, Unical branch.

Akpagu who congratulated the Interim Executive members on their appointment, assured them that he would work with them to address all welfare issues of staff.

He pledged to accord them full recognition as the authentic representatives of the union in Unical.

On the backlog of overtime arrears,  the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that only ten percent of the arrears were outstanding and promised to clear it as soon as finances of the university improve.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Interim Exco, Mr. Richard Ita, had presented a list of welfare items for the attention of the Vice-Chancellor. The issues included pension deduction, promotion implementation, overtime arrears and release of 2017 appraisal forms for promotion.

Also present at the meeting were other members of the Interim Exco of SSANU, the Registrar, Bursar, S. A. Labour and the Chairman, Board of Media and Community Relations.
